A Brief History of Saint Peter the Apostle Church, Islip Terrace, New York
Our parish was established in 1962. Over the years, our parish has been serving the people of Islip Terrace and Central Islip by bringing them the presence of the Lord, Jesus Christ, through a number of ministries. Our parish Mission Statement is as follows:“Rooted in God’s love, guided by the Word of the Lord, and empowered by the Spirit, we, the parishioners of Saint Peter the Apostle Parish, recognize our call to holiness. We will strive to become a parish of hospitality and friendship, prayer and service, by sharing our faith and responding to the needs of our community.”The life of a parish parallels, in many ways, the life of a family. After all, it is the family of Christ’s Church.Just as in a family, the early years are filled with many milestones and newsworthy events. The starting of the family, the building of a home and necessary mortgage and children, are all noted in the family history through photographs, gatherings, parties, and prayers for each other. And so it has been with Saint Peter the Apostle parish family. Many life events have taken place here in our parish community: Baptisms, Confirmations, Holy Communions, Reconciliations, Anointing of the Sick, Marriages, and entrances into Holy Orders and Consecrated Life.We are an energetic and creative parish community, dedicated to the Lord and Magisterium of the Catholic Church. We value each one of our parishioners and all who visit, and we hope that you find your visit to our parish Internet site informative and welcoming.
